SplashTool 2.2 is available

SplashTool v2.2 is now available in the password-protected customer area! The new version comes with a small bug fix:

In previous versions, file output was limited to a maximum file size of 4GB. This limitation stems from the file size limit of TIF files and was already resolved some time ago by introducing the BIGTIF format. BIGTIF files do not have these size restrictions, yet they still have the same file extension as regular TIF files.

Since both ArcGIS and QGIS can handle BIGTIF files without any issues, starting from version 2.2, BIGTIF files are automatically created for large areas. This enables the analysis of large areas (> 500 km² with a resolution of 1 m x 1 m) in a single pass without splitting the area of interest.

Additionally, the lossless compression algorithm for the result files was changed from LZW to DEFLATE, resulting in slightly smaller output files with the same information content.

Besides these changes, minor updates to the underlying libraries were made once again.

If you want to calculate areas with more than 500 million raster cells, I recommend updating to version 2.2. Please follow the installation instructions for the update and first uninstall the old version.
